To improve the economic and environmental performance of its transport, the social and solidarity company Les Alchimistes, specializing in the collection of food waste in cities and in the production and distribution of compost, has been using the new automatic route optimization solution since April. OptiFlow developed by PTV Logistics.

Created at the end of 2016, Les Alchimistes is not only a social and solidarity enterprise (ESUS). They wish to lead a real citizen and social movement dedicated to the preservation of soils, essential to life on earth and little known. Their objective: to raise awareness among 7 million people about sorting and composting food waste by 2028, i.e. 10% of the French population, to be present in 30 territories, to recycle 300,000 tonnes of food waste and to create 1000 jobs. To achieve this ambition, the company offers professionals and communities complete management of their bio-waste: from on-site collection to recycling into compost, to the sale of compost to market gardeners or sold in major food distribution and specialist brands. Today, the 250 alchemists ensure the collection of more than 3,000 establishments in around twenty territories thanks to a network of 12 agencies, diverting each year 30,000 tonnes of food waste from incineration or landfill and a rate of strong development. This collection is carried out using a fleet of 45 trucks.

A 10% optimization of direct costs linked to logistics

To optimize the economic and ecological performance of its logistics, Les Alchimistes equipped itself this April with the new OptiFlow route optimization solution from PTV Logistics. Developed specifically to optimize costs and reduce kilometers, this latest generation software uses artificial intelligence and powerful algorithms capable of processing up to tens of thousands of order orders in a single transport plan. Result: from the first planning stages, Les Alchimistes saw an immediate return on investment with an optimization of 10% of their logistics budget. This significant reduction is accompanied by a corresponding reduction in kilometers traveled, leading to an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions. In addition to the expected gains, Les Alchimistes chose the OptiFlow SaaS software for its ergonomics, ease of use and support from PTV Logistics' pre-sales teams. The Alchimists use OptiFlow at two levels: tactical, to size routes according to customer needs and transport constraints, and operational, to carry out daily optimizations as close as possible to the reality on the ground.

“The integration of OptiFlow has transformed our logistics management. By optimizing our logistics we have not only made significant savings but also reduced our carbon footprint. We remain faithful to our commitments to the environment. This solution allows us to significantly improve the daily lives of the teams responsible for planning thanks to an intuitive and easy-to-use tool” explains Flore Desal, Director of Development and Strategy at Les Alchimistes.

“With OptiFlow, PTV Logistics offers an easy-to-use SaaS solution, equipped with a powerful algorithm for route optimization. Our customers see a double-digit reduction in their transportation costs, improved operational performance and customer satisfaction. But above all, as Les Alchimistes wanted, a more virtuous and environmentally friendly activity” concludes Yann Desloire Kritsotakis, France sales director of PTV Logistics.
