To gain competitiveness and support its ongoing CSR approach, Barbero transport has installed 4 ultra-fast electric charging stations from the company Chargepoly at their headquarters in Saint-Laurent-du-Var (06).

When it comes to greening its transport activity, no more traffic restrictions: Barbero puts its foot down! The Laurentine company, specializing in refrigerated and industrial transport, is making its ecological transition at full speed with the aim of satisfying its customers and seeking out new markets. In 2020, Barbero inaugurated at its head office in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in the Alpes-Maritimes, a new 32,000 m2 refrigerated logistics platform equipped with a solar farm allowing it to self-consume energy on the site. The carrier has also converted its fleet to green energy. Today, 80% of its tractors and 70% of its carriers run on B100 biofuel, with refrigeration units powered by nitrogen. In this process of continuous improvement, it has finally invested in the purchase of 4 100% electric carriers equipped with cryogenic refrigeration units (two 16 tonnes and two 26 tonnes) - a world first in the transport sector - as well as in the installation of an ultra-fast charging station. For the latter, Barbero chose the manufacturer Chargepoly. A strategic choice for the family business for three generations which was made naturally on the recommendation of one of its manufacturing partners, a famous automobile brand with a diamond-shaped logo.

An installed power of 300 kW

Always on the lookout for the latest innovations on the market, Barbero transport was the first to trust Chargepoly's intelligent charging technology. Operational since last September, the electrical station consists of an installed power of 300kW dynamically distributed to the 4 terminals which supply the 4 new Barbero carriers. At the end of each day, Barbero recharges the vehicles with meticulous organization. As soon as they arrive at 9 p.m., the site fleet manager checks and puts the porters in charge. The station intelligently distributes energy to ensure that from 6 a.m., each driver can take possession of their carrier to make a first tour in the department to major retail chains, fresh produce grocery stores and individuals. . At the lunch break, the carriers return to the logistics platform to carry out a quick 30-minute recharge, allowing them to gain around 20% of autonomy, before leaving again in the afternoon to deliver industrial freight. The 4 terminals allow two carriers to be recharged simultaneously from 20 to 100% in 2 hours.

A conclusive experience

A little more than six months after the installation of the station, the Chargepoly experience is conclusive. “No notable incident,” notes Anthony Rocquencourt, training and safety manager at Barbero transport. The terminals are reliable and operational, which allows us to provide full satisfaction to our customers with 100% carbon-free vehicles emitting no noise in the city center, for the greater comfort of local residents and our drivers.” The manager also underlines the quality of support throughout the project: “The Chargepoly teams were involved and present at our side, at all stages of the installation”. A positive feedback which encourages Barbero transports to continue on this path. In May, the transporter will test its first electric tractor with a view to making deliveries over longer distances, regionally and nationally. An expansion of its electric fleet which will require the installation of new Chargepoly charging stations.
